Behold the world’s largest plankton!!!

What do you imagine when you think of a plankton?

Small, transparent, floating creatures?

Or maybe a cute image from Criones.

Or … perhaps the evil guy from Spongebob:

However, a plankton that overturns such an image was discovered by @planktomancer.


This plankton’s name is Cystisoma.


It is a huge plankton found in the deep sea.


The transparency is that of a plankton, but the moving figure resembles something more of an alien …

The deep sea is full of wonders.

Planktons are referred to “a creature that tends to float with no swimming power”, but when it grows to this extent, strictly speaking, it may not be a plankton.

Shrimp and crabs are also called plankton during the larval period.

In other words, it would be more correct to say that this creature is a transparent shrimp in the deep sea.
